Hi Lance,
Great tips on focusing and working on "tasks". I got a little timer software program that I can set for 45 minutes to an hour . . . work like crazy and then take a break.

Thanks for an inspiring post,
Theresa

Great post, Lance. And I LOVE that tip - that's what I've been trying; splitting up huge, seemingly overwhelming 'projects' into smaller, more manageable tasks. Works most of the time, but I admit I do get sidetracked and distracted with email/surfing sometimes. ;-)

Also, as you say, I do think it helps when you do have a supportive, understanding partner (my SO has been monumental in helping me to spread my business wings).

As always, Lance, excellent advice!

I used to have "A.D.D." when it came to Internet Marketing, work, life in general. I couldn't seem to focus on one task at a time, and constantly would bounce from project to project, wondering why I never got anything done. I was trying to do too much at once. 3 weeks would go by, and I wouldn't have ANYTHING finished. Sometimes, not even started!

Then one day I listened to a "binaural beat" mp3 that was supposed to help me improve my ability to focus. I downloaded it to my cellphone mp3 player, put on the earbuds, played the mp3, and went to work. The mp3 was only 1 hour long. When the file was done playing, I took off the earbuds and looked at what I had accomplished. Holy cow! It worked! LOL. I had gotten more done in that 1 hour than I'd ever done in 5x as much time. All from focusing on one task at a time, and not allowing any distractions to take my focus away.

Focus and time management is the #1 make-or-break of success. You can have the biggest list in the world. Or the best product. Or more time on your hands than a beach bum living on the coast of Tahiti. But if you don't manage your time, or focus on what needs to be done and when, nothing else matters, and you're just wasting everything.

Speaking of which, time to focus on another task ;-)

It is amazing how such a simple exercise can help clear so much of the noise. It always felt like there was an impossible mountain in front of me and that just paralyzed me.

Breaking my day into bite sized tasks keeps me focused and moving in the right direction without getting completely overwhelmed with "the big picture".

Easier said than done. There is no one recipe to get things done. What you relate is a nice story but things never happen in linear format just look at the history of any subject. Genetics, algebra, psychology, internet marketing., It is up and down. So all that work you had to go through before you met your saviour you probably had to do it and was probably the only reason that your where able to recognize the traits in someoneelse that you required to push you forward. I don't think there are any shortcuts for anything that is worth doing because eventually you are going to have to differentiate yourself from the crowd and push forward at that point you are always alone. I undertook a PhD in Biochemistry and had a department full of professors to help me forward but at the point when I had come up with something original I had to do it alone and it was only that that propelled me forward no mentoring no nothing. Hope this helps.

Hi Lance,

I have to admit it too, I bought into the same dream! What is hard to do is to keep your focus when you are bombarded with so many pitches about how this or that product or technique is supposedly the best there ever was and that it will definitely be your big break through. Making a to-do list is the right thing to do so as not to get too distracted. :-)
